It’s a great time of year to begin donating to Shining Light.  You can donate today online by clicking on the DONATE BUTTON BELOW and help our clients and their families.

You may also donate by sending a check payable to Shining Light to our address listed below.  Please consider a special donation or small reoccurring monthly donations.  Your contribution is always appreciated and needed.

Volunteer

We greatly appreciate all our volunteers, both long term and short term project volunteers. We work to recruit a diverse group of leaders with a record of achievement who work to expand educational opportunities and resources for our clients.

For those in need of performing Community Service Hours, we are an organization where you can register your served hours.

Charitable Donations

This year, please consider this IRA option for donations to Shining Light

Eligible IRA Owners and Charitable Donations

Who Can Donate?

  • Individuals aged 70½ or older can make donations from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) to qualified charities.

  • Both traditional and certain types of IRAs, such as rollover and inherited IRAs, are eligible for these donations.

Donation Limits

  • In 2024, eligible IRA owners can donate up to $105,000 tax-free to charity.

  • This limit will increase to $108,000 in 2025.

  • Married couples can combine their donations, allowing up to $210,000 if both have separate IRAs.

Tax Benefits

  • Donations made through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) are not included in taxable income, which can help lower your adjusted gross income (AGI).

  • QCDs can also count toward the required minimum distributions (RMDs) for those aged 73 and older.

How to Make a Donation

  1. Contact Your IRA Trustee: Initiate the process by reaching out to your IRA provider.

  2. Direct Transfer: Ensure the donation is made directly from your IRA to the charity to qualify as a QCD.

  3. Documentation: Obtain a written acknowledgment from the charity confirming the donation details.
